The history of FERVE

The story of FERVE begins in 1925 when Bienvenido Ferret Vidales, the father of the present owner of the company, Juan Ferret Carbonell, opened the Ferret Electrical Workshops. Among its activities, as well as vehicle repair, electric motors were coiled and the dynamo armatures of the model T Ford– one of the most famous and most widely sold cars of its day. The company also promoted the sale of Willard car batteries from the USA and Dinin batteries from France.

In the early forties the company began to sell its own car batteries and this marked the real beginning for FERVE – the name of the company being composed from the founder's surname and the town of his birth: FER from Ferret and VE from Vendrell.

1956
The shortage of materials in those days was the main spur to the imagination. In order to overcome the lack of copper wire, Bienvenido Ferret developed a machine that covered copper wire, recovered from burnt-out dynamo armatures, with two layers of cotton, making it possible to reuse these components. The development of original equipment became progressively more important and it soon became necessary to expand the company. Thus, in 1956 Juan Ferret moved to premises in Carrer Santa Anna, in the heart of the historic centre of El Vendrell, and these premises were devoted exclusively to the mass production of induction coils for Spanish and foreign vehicles, solenoids, voltage regulators and instrument panels for cars and motorcycles, amongst other products. Today Ferret Electrical Workshops’ business operations are run by Bienvenido Ferret’s eldest son, José Ferret Carbonell, including two car accessory and spare-parts shops under the trade name of Telfer, situated in El Vendrell and Tarragona.

Expansion
On 18 April 1956 Juan Ferret took over the helm of management and FERVE began to expand and export to a growing number of countries. While the company continued to establish itself on the domestic and foreign markets, it continued to register new patents and to make improvements on previous inventions.

The range of products already satisfied a large part of the demand in the sector: normal and fast battery chargers, automatic chargers, testing equipment, mini testers and battery testers, lamp testers and safety light testers, voltmeters and ammeters battery booster cables, post and terminal cleaners and non-drip automatic fillers.

1962-1970
Due to its growing size and the steady growth in orders, the company soon needed more space for the assembly and production lines. In 1962 FERVE acquired premises covering three floors in Carrer Nou and in 1969 the foundation stone for today’s factory was laid. FERVE would finally move to this factory on the Carretera of Calafell 12 in 1970. In the sheet metal supply sector, the company Fermsa, S.A. located in the municipality of Vallbona d’Anoia (Barcelona) efficiently provides FERVE with high quality metal components.
